A Photo from the Surface of Venus.
I got this image from a blog on Scientific American where Michael J. Battaglia makes a case for putting astronaunts in orbit around Venus. It’s an interesting read. We don’t talk about Venus the same way we talk about Mars, and Venus is a much shorter trip. Of course landing on Venus is much harder. The planet is so hot and the atmosphere is so caustic landers can’t survive more than a few hours… at most. Some dissolved in minutes.
I remembered how exciting it was when the Mars rover lasted past their 90 days (actually Mars days) expectations. One lasted for over 5 years and one is still going!
Well this Venus lander also out performed it’s original life span. They thought it would melt down in 32 minutes but it kept working for 127 minutes.
