Help me: HDV Camera Importing Issue

Hey Internet, I’ve been having issues importing footage using my SONY miniDV camera.

It’s been a long while since I tried to import anything.

I have my camera on, and plugged in.

I have a tape in my camera.

I have a firewire running from my camera to the computer (iMAC)

I have FinalCut set to East Setup HDV-1080i60

When I click setup I get the message “Unable to locate the following external devices: HDV (1440 x 1080) 60i.

This is the camera I used to record the footage. (a Sony HDV 1080i)

What could I be doing wrong?

  1. justdreamingaway answered: Sony HDV has long since been the headache of FCP. There is a workaround out there that I can’t recall. But know it is a known issue.
  2. adamconover answered: Is the camera in “play the tape” mode, instead of “be a camera” mode? Did you restart FCP after turning the cam on?
