Are you interested in seeing some smart, funny, cool improv on Friday? There are probably quite a few options. So let me sell you on Code Red (that link is a facebook event).
I am not in the show, but I am the coach/director of the host group. They grew out of a class I taught that really gelled. It probably helped that it was made up of a few different pre-existing groups. Carrie McCrossen, James McCarthy, and Eric Gersen all perform on Book. Patrick Noth, Zack Willis, Geoff Murphy, Jocelyn DeBoer, and Steve Theiss are all on Dreamboat. I think Kassia Miller and Jeff Miller are in a group together. And then there is Ryan Dunkin, Marielena Logsdon, Rachael Mason, and Caitlin Tegart.
They are all great, but let me quickly single out one person. You guys know Caitlin from writing or directing half of the shows at the UCB, but if you haven’t seen her perform improv you’ve missed out.
Anyway they are doing some real fun stuff, and they’re doing it within the Harold structure. Everytime I push them, they push themselves further. So the show on Friday is going to be great!
And on top of the two Harolds they are performing they have UCB Harold Team Ragnarock joining in. I love that team! Smart and funny and a great fit for what Code Red has been working on. I once commented to someone that Ragnarock is currently setting the bar that I want to hold the rest of Harold Night to.
So that’s a strong trio of shows. If you love smart improv you’ll love this show.
Full Disclosure: I won’t be there! I am out of town attending a wedding (not the royal wedding) but if I was in town this would be where you’d find me Friday night.
This Friday at Under St. Marks at 10:30. I am sure it has a cost, but I don’t know what it is.
