DCM 12 - Brothers Hines not on Printed Schedule
Del Close Marathon Time… due to some last minute changes make sure you check out the online schedule. Or you might miss out on The Brothers Hines. We are opening up the Hudson Guild Stage at 6:30, so come check us out. My Full Schedule: Friday 6:30pm - Brothers Hines - we are related. I like to think this is the purest form of my sense of humor I get to in improv. Mostly because...

Saturday Night Improv Marathon
I know the Del Close Marathon is next weekend, but do to some lucky scheduling I got to perform a ton of improv on Saturday. At 9 I was asked (along with brother, Will) to sit in with 4 Track at the Magnet Theater. I’ve know Alan Fessenden for ages, and Matt Evans for slightly fewer ages and it was a blast to get to work with them both. Coincidentally, a few days earlier while watching the...

Anonymous asked: I have been doing improv for 2 years. I am in the advanced courses at UCB. I have a lot of fun in class. But I have zero fun doing shows (class shows or otherwise), practice groups, or indie groups outside of class. What is wrong with me?

loserbeam asked: One problem I can't seem to figure out is in making game moves. I can pull ideas from an opener, I can find a game, I can connect with my partner on what we're playing, I can support, and most of the time I can play the game. But there are just those scenes that seem to slip away; I'll know what the game is, but I can't think of a move. It doesn't happen that often, but...

Anonymous asked: I seem to have a hard time getting and staying with any practice group. Someone put one together while I was in 201, but the only time I could make it, they canceled last minute and I wasn't invited back again. My 301 class met 2 or 3 times outside of class for extra practice, we all loved each other, and we swore we'd make a practice group after the class ended. It's been 3 months....

Ask me questions? →
I’m working on a bunch of small things today, so I’d be happy to answer random questions today. Stuff about comic books, television, my new cat, or improv would probably be best. But I’ll field anything.

erockappel: UNDERCOVER KARAOKE with JEWEL I’ve had this idea for a while and I’m so glad I got to try it out with Jewel! Basically, we got her to completely disguise herself (with the help of an amazing makeup team) as a Midwestern business woman in town for a frozen foods convention, and then sent her into a karaoke dive bar in Santa Monica to see if she could fool people. About an hour or...

Performing in the Lottery
I got to perform in the Lottery last night (July 6th). For those of you who don’t know, the Lottery (in it’s current form) is a show where 10 randomly selected students (from varying levels. From 101 all the way to the advanced classes) get to perform a harold with more seasoned house team players. The students have one rehearsal together, and then are on stage performing a harold....

Ed Brubaker killed Scott Adsit
One of the best comics being produced today is Criminal. It’s a series of crime comics written by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. If you only read comics with superheroes or are named Brett White you know that Ed Brubaker is the guy writing Captain America and Sean Phillips drew the first few Marvel Zombie storylines. If you don’t read comics at all, or just read them a little bit...

"I get my laughs!" or I love Peanuts →
I love Peanuts. As a kid we had tons of Peanuts books laying around. I have no idea who they belonged to, I’d guess Will, but maybe they were family communal books? Either way, I read the shit out of peanuts. Years later when Schultz had gotten real old and the strip got weird and not very good I was talking to Will and someone we started talking about Peanuts. Will didn’t think it...

Futurama is Back.
Anyone care about my opinion about the return of Futurama? Well, I care enough to write about it so everyone else feel free to ignore this post. Three episodes of Futurama in the delayed 6th season (let’s count the 4 movies as season 5. Ok?) Overall The episodes that have aired have been right in the wheelhouse of Futurama’s old episodes. Not up there with the best episodes like...
